Nenagh Ormond 24 Bruff 24

Last Sunday 17 Nenagh Ormond U-14 players headed to Bruff RFC for a friendly. The match started off sluggishly from a Nenagh point of view, however a trademark intercept try by Mason Cawley sparked the game into life. Zac Keller expertly converted. Bruff equalised shortly after that and both teams really went all out. With the Bruff forwards camped on the Nenagh line, somehow John Mulvihill got his hands on the ball, wrestled it from the Bruff ball carrier and moved it through the hands away from danger. William Murphy making his first start in the Nenagh colours, marked his debut with a number of very brave tackles , and was unlucky to have to go off with a knock. Following some good work in midfield Mason kicked the ball into space, outsprinted 2 Bruff players and scored his second try. As the game went on the Nenagh backs grew more and more into the game, and following quick hands at the breakdown, our flying winger Sean Ryan scored a fine try under the posts. With Tadgh Gleeson completely dominant at full back, things looked very well for the visitors. Jack Mac moved from 8 to midfield and did really well - however he was forced to come off with 15 mins left. This effectively reduced us to the bare 15 . Zac Keller wrapped up a fine performance with a really well taken try to put us 24 14 up, but in the last few minutes, with Nenagh out in their feet and no substitutes available Bruff scored 2 tries to leave the final score 24 each. Overall this was a very good performance against well drilled team - the backs went well, moved the ball quickly and took their tries well. The scrum was solid all day, and our tackling has improved 100%. Our thanks to Bruff RFC for hosting us, and thanks to all the parents who made the long journey to Kilballyowen park. The day was finished off in style with a stop-off at Applegreen Birdhill on the journey home.
