Under 16’s match report🔴⚪️

Nenagh played Garryowen in the quarter final of the North Munster cup at a sunny and firm Lisatunney last Sunday. With a few late changes due to injury and illness the team had to rely on some of the U15’s and having lost twice to Garryowen this year it was going to be a tough challenge for the local lads. The first 20 minutes was a typical cup match with defences on top and quite a few penalties at the breakdowns, Nenagh were struggling to get any continuity to keep the pressure on the boys in blue. The after 20 minutes a penalty was kicked down the line and the lineout well led by Fionn O’Meara produced a good attacking position in the Garryowen 22 and from a number of carries close to the line Dylan Crowe burst for the opening try, Darragh Gleeson conversion was good for a 7 nil lead. Another good penalty win on half way allowed another lineout around the 22 on the clubhouse side and from a well-rehearsed line out move Dylan Crowe had a good rumble well supported by Ethan Moloney and after a second carry quick hands from the backs to winger Daniel O’Brien allowed him to score wide on the right, the conversion was wide to give us a 12-0 lead heading into half time. It was one of the best tries the team has scored this season and showed the capabilities of the team when forwards and backs work in unison. The second half was also hard fought with some good carries by Oisin Flynn who had possibly his best game in a Nenagh shirt. A highlight was one super clean out by Dan Kenneally, who has developed very well this season despite only taking up the game during lockdown. It remained scoreless despite some excellent play by the home team, some loose carries allowing a competitive Garryowen team to win some vital balls while defending their 22. After 25 minutes Nenagh competed well at a Garryowen lineout and disrupted their throw and Fionn O’Meara pounced on the loose ball to burst over for a unconverted try to leave the score at 17-0. A game Garryowen team scored a late unconverted try to leave the final score 17-5 to the home team. A good performance for the boys despie the late change to the selected team and the U15’s Cillian Healy and Brehon O’Donnell played very well moving Darragh Gleeson to an unfamiliar 13 role due to the injuries and all performed well. Onwards to the semi final now in a couple of week after the other side of the draw is completed.
