U16 North Munster League: Nenagh V Young Munster

Nenagh welcomed Young Munster to Lisatunny in the second round of the U16 North Munster league
on Sunday. While Nenagh ran out comfortable winners in the end they were made to work hard for
their win. The visitors started faster punishing Nenagh's sloppiness in possession. They dominated
possession and territory and deservedly opened an 8-0 lead. When Nenagh managed to retain some
possession, they looked threatening and hit back through Seanie Quinlan and Jack Tierney tries only for
the visitors to take a 13-10 half time lead when they scored their second try of
match.
Nenagh hit back straight after the break when Oscar Griffin rounded off a fine team move to
score in the corner and put Nenagh into a 15-13 lead. The visitors continued to make life difficult for
Nenagh and they had an unsuccessful penalty attempt at goal midway through the second half to retake the lead.
Nenagh's response was impressive as the forwards upped the physicality and began to dominate. Some
great carries by Daragh Meehan, Daragh Boland and Ronan Devlin resulted in Nenagh being held up just
short of the line. Senan O’Farrell spotted a gap in the Young Munster defense, picked and dived over the line.
Charlie Talbot added the extras to push the lead out to 22-13. Shortly afterwards Oisin Gleeson crashed over
under the posts following some great interplay between backs and forwards with Charlie Talbot adding
the conversion. Then, from their 22m line, Nenagh scored the try of the match, the ball was moved wide
from the breakdown and some great handling put Dara Corish into space. He still had plenty of work to
do but showed searing pace to run the length of the pitch and score in the corner. Shortly after, Oscar Griffin
retrieved a loose kick on the halfway line and showed his power and pace to round the
defense and score under the posts. Charlie Talbot added the extras to leave the full-time score Nenagh
41-Young Munster 13.
Nenagh have finished top of Group 2 and qualify for the League semi-final scheduled for
December 22nd. Our focus now turns to the U16 Munster Conference which kicks off next Sunday when
we host Ennis RFC who are the current U16 Munster champions. Training continues on Wednesday and
Friday at 8PM in Lisatunny. New players born in 2009 are always welcome.
