Nenagh Ormond under 15s played at home on Sunday last against the amalgamated side of Newport/Old Crescent/ Ballina/Killaloe and Scariff. Conditions were quite testing with a very strong breeze blowing across the field which made kicking and passing quite difficult. Nenagh with the aid of the wind started well with some very strong carries. Nenagh got three tries on the board with Anluan White getting all three. The first one created from a clever run by Ben Madden, and the other two from great running lines, one from the back of the scrum. We got a fourth try, again after Anluan White made a break and then quick thinking by Aidan Ryan who picked and powered over the line. Tommy Powell scored straight from the drop off collecting it and showing great pace to run the length of the field. The next try scored was from a close penalty. Shaun Murphy with the initial carry and when the ball was being moved wide Kaden Fogarty spotted a gap in the defence to slip through and touch down. The opposition replied with a try of their own just before half time.
With Nenagh against the wind for the second half it was Newport who started the brighter. They scored again after the Nenagh defence seemed to switch off. However. that score seemed to spur Nenagh on with Tommy Powell getting another fine try and James Dwyer getting two, one fine individual effort and the second one from good teamwork by James and Tommy. The opposition scored next with a try from a series of pick and go’s at the ruck. Just before full time Tomas Tierney got in on the scoring action with a clever pick and go at full reach. Overall, it was a good performance and as always plenty to work on. Training continues Wednesday and Fridays.
