U16 MATCH REPORT 14/10/18
Ennis 29 Nenagh Ormond 13
Nenagh Ormond Under 16s travelled to Ennis last Sunday on what turned out to be a perfect day for rugby. These two teams played in the North Munster Cup near the end of last season with Ennis winning well so the Nenagh lads knew it would be a tough game.
This proved to be the case in the opening minutes as Nenagh found themselves pinned in their own 22. Eventually the pressure told and Ennis put the first 5 points on the scoreboard. Nenagh then seemed to settle in to the game and, when they got possession they held it well, resulting in a penalty which outhalf Adam Steed slotted. Nenagh kept the pressure on with the forwards, well marshalled by scrum half Andrew Ferris, working very hard to secure quick ball for the backs. It was superb footwork from Adam Cleere which brought the next score and he touched down under the posts. Steed converted to put Nenagh 10-5 ahead at the break.
Ennis came out fighting in the second half, scoring early to even things up and then going ahead 15-10 before another Steed penalty brought it back to 15–13 in favour of the home side. Again this week numbers were tight and it was this that made the difference in the final quarter with Ennis able to bring on fresh legs to renew their attack. They scored twice again in the closing stages of the match to leave the final score at Ennis 29-13 Nenagh Ormond.
As is often the case, the scoreline does not tell the whole story of what was a very competitive and gutsy performance and there is plenty to build on in the coming weeks. Training every Tuesday & Friday at 7pm in Tyone.
