Ennis (Red) 3 Nenagh Ormond 33
After a shock opening defeat to Kilfeacle in the first round of matches last week, Nenagh Ormond under 18’s got back to winning ways with a comprehensive 33-3 win away to Ennis. Playing against the weaker of the two teams fielded by Ennis at this grade, Nenagh were always in control and scored five tries in an impressive display which brings their hopes of Munster Cup rugby back in line. Centre Kian O’Kelly scored an early try for a 7-0 lead to the visitors and this was stretched to 12 points when second row Patrick Finn touched down for Nenagh’s second try on 15 minutes after some fine interplay down the left flank. O’Kelly was again prominent for the Ormond lads a short time later, showing great pace to break clear before providing the scoring pass for winger Eamon Hough to touch down under the posts and give his team a 19-3 half time lead.
When O’Kelly split the Ennis defence from a well worked move to score his second (and Nenagh’s fourth) try early in the second half, the game was effectively over as a contest and the intensity dipped before O’Kelly rounded off the scoring with his third try in the final play of the game. All in all, this was an encouraging performance after last week’s disappointing defeat but Nenagh will need to continue their improvement in preparation for the visit of a strong Bruff side in three weeks’ time.
