NORFC 17 Newport RFC 36
Last Sunday we took on a fine Newport RFC side in the North Munster league. With a lot of players unavailable, numbers were tight. We started brightly with a well taken try by Mason Cawley and it was even enough on the first half. However this was a strong Newport side and thry battled their way back into the game. We were dealt a tough blow when our top scorer Mason was forced off with an injury, shortly after scoring his second try. Ruaidhri Kelly scored a try half way through the second half and for a time we were in contention, but with a few injuries, tired bodies and as mentioned small numbers it was probably inevitable that we would concede further scores, and to their credit Newport finished stronger running in 2 late tries, which their young out half expertly converted.
All in all it was a reasonable performance from Nenagh, tackling definitely improved, however there is plenty of room for improvement.
We are finding the going tough this season, with the step up in physicality and intensity, as well as the loss of key players proving difficult. However this is a resilient and tightly knit group and we are confident we will overcome these obstacles. Training continues Wednesday night at 7pm in Tyone - new players always welcome
