St Senan's 22 Nenagh Ormond 7
Last Sunday NORFC U14s took on St Senans in the first round of the North Munster Cup.
The day started poorly with the concession of an early try, which Senans followed up with a second unconverted try to leave the score 10 nil at half time. However Nenagh were well in the game, just a few handling errors and lack of conviction at the breakdown being the difference between the teams. The second half started brightly with a well taken try by Jack O Callaghan, which was expertly converted by Zac Keller. This left the game finely balanced at 10 - 7 with all to play for. From the kick off however an uncharacteristic knock on resulted in the concession of a third try. Nenagh continued to press hard, but were unable to break down the well drilled Senans defence. With a lot of tired bodies, and only 2 replacements available, inevitably a fourth try was conceded, to give the scoreline a lopsided look, albeit Senans were much the better team. On the day there were good performances from Tristan, Sean Ryan, Mason and Cillian.
Overall this was a good performance against a fine division 1 side, with lots of positives to be taken. Our tackling and passing in general has improved, our decision making is good however a lack of aggression at the breakdown and an inability to secure and present our own ball is costing us. In training we will continue to target this area of our game.
Our panel has taken a bit of a battering lately between injuries, retirements and other sports commitments and was reduced to 17 on the day
Our next priority is the Plate competition which will commence in the next week or two. Our season will end once our involvement with that competition ends.
