Munster Club U18.5 Cup
Clonakilty v Nenagh Ormond 🔴⚪️
Nenagh Ormond U18.5s made the long trip to Clonakilty on Sunday morning for Round 3 of the Munster Club Cup. Both teams had two wins from two coming into the game so the winners would take pole position in the group.
In the first quarter the teams seemed fairly evenly matched and, although both made a few mistakes, there was some good rugby on display. Clonakilty were on the scoreboard first when they got a try out wide with their kicker just narrowly missing the conversion. Nenagh answered this with an excellent forwards try which, after some very strong carries in tight, was finished by Luke Conneally. Joseph Gleeson converted to put Nenagh ahead by two points. It was a real fight for the remainder of the first half with both teams creating several opportunities and then, just before half time a couple of missed tackles gave Clonakilty an opportunity and they grabbed it with both hands. This time they slotted the conversion to go ahead 12-7 at the break.
Clonakilty seemed to have even more energy in the second half and they targeted the breakdown in particular. Again they scored first with a penalty to go 15-7 in front and when they scored a try later in the half to push the lead out to 22-7, the Nenagh lads knew they were running out of time. Although they tried hard, the Clonakilty defence was determined and Nenagh just could not get a foothold in their half. A final try for Clonakilty put the game beyond doubt and left the final score at 29-7. Next up for our U18.5s are Bandon at home in two weeks time.
