Senior Rugby: The senior squad got the season off to the best possible start with a comprehensive win over UL Bohemians in the Sporting Limerick Charity Cup last Saturday in Annacotty. If the sluggish start to last season was signified by the struggles at Set Piece time then this performance will be very heartening to Ormond fans. The Nenagh pack were utterly dominant up front, particularly at scrum time giving a dangerous back line plenty of possession to cause the UL defence headaches. The returning Dylan Murphy and John Coffey as well as new arrival Mikey Doran deserve plenty of credit for their impact in the front row and Vice Captain and stalwart Kevin O Flaharty was at his influential best in the second row chipping in with two tries to cap a great all round performance. The final score was 51-0 to Nenagh. Holding the home side scoreless said a lot about Nenagh’s intent here. At one point Nenagh were reduced to 12 men with sin binnings and still kept their line intact so while they will be keen to cut down on the yellow card concessions, their resilience in defence was most impressive.

The scorers in full were: Tries- Rob Buckley, Davy Gleeson (2), Johnny Hayes, Kevin O Flaharty (2), Nicky Irwin, Paudie Bourke. Cons- James Finn (4). Pens- James Finn (1)

Squad:

1. Mikey Doran 2. Dylan Murphy 3. John Coffey 4. Jake O Kelly 5. Kevin O Flaherty (VC) 6. Rob Buckley 7. Evan Murphy 8. John Fla 9. Nicky Irwin 10. Derek Corcoran 11. David Gleeson 12. John Healy 13. Munster U18: Congratulations to both Cillian Ryan and Mason Cawley who represented Munster at U18 Boys Club level tomorrow in Musgrave Park vs Ulster last Sunday. Both boys started the game and played their part in an impressive 24- 18 win. This is a great honour for the boys and their families and we wish them well in the remaining Interprovincial games over the coming weeks. Well done lads. Well done too to Catríona Finn on her selection for the Munster Girls U18 side who played Connacht on Saturday and were unlucky to lose out on the day.
