2022 has been a year of tremendous highs as well as crushing lows for those in the Nenagh Ormond community. In a rugby sense we had the huge thrill of maintaining our Division 2A status on home turf back in April in front of a raucous support and it has been fantastic to see the senior side kick on from that win in the first half of the new season. As things stand the team are well placed to make a push for the promotion playoff places in 2023 and also have plenty of cup rugby interest with a Charity Cup final and Munster Senior Cup semi final to come in early 2023. For the Senior 2nds their league has got off to a strong start and the team have a home draw in the Munster Junior Cup to look forward to as well in late January.
From an underage perspective all teams from U18.5 down to Under 7s are seeing thriving playing numbers and plenty of on field success too. Our older age groups are just embarking on their Pan Munster campaigns while the younger groupings look forward to participating in various blitzes and competitions in the North Munster region.
All at the club have been very proud to continue to see members of our club represent us on Munster age grade teams again this year and do themselves, their families and their club proud. Rugby is and always should be our focus in Nenagh Ormond and as we reach the festive period for another year we want to express our gratitude to all who make the club work in the way it does. This covers everyone from the officers of the club led by our President Theresa, to our senior and juvenile committee members, our coaching teams at all levels who freely give their time, our fundraising committee, our grounds staff who keep our facilities in the best shape at all times and of course our biggest cohort, the players who represent us so proudly on a weekly basis. A club is only as strong as its membership and hopefully we will see ours continue to grow and go from strength to strength in 2023.
As for the lows, at this time too however we think of those who we have lost during 2022. Without wishing to omit anyone by listing all our departed friends we simply acknowledge that as a club we have bid farewell to a number of long standing members in the course of 2022. While our loss is painful it pales in comparison to the void left for their families who mourn the loss of our comrades. We think of all of them at this time and while saddened by their loss we remain grateful for the contribution they all gave to our club during their time with us.
Christmas is above all a time for family. To all in the Nenagh Ormond family we wish you and yours a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2023. Here’s to many happy days ahead on the playing fields to those in the red and white in the year ahead.
