In what is to all intents and purposes a mini test series, Nenagh got 2023 off to the best possible start by beating Navan at home on Saturday last before they make the trip to the Meath club this coming Saturday for the return fixture. With the league now up to date and each team with 9 0f their 18 games played Nenagh are sitting just outside the playoff places on 27 points separated from MU Barnhall in front of them by score difference alone. With signs of good form aplenty on Saturday last Nenagh will have ambitions of breaking into the top 4 by Saturday evening. The final scoreline was 31-15 to Nenagh who also picked up a four try bonus point. It goes without saying though that Navan will undoubtedly be a tougher prospect on their home turf. With a few absentees set to return and plenty of learnings taken from the trip to Nenagh on Saturday they too will want to get back in the hunt for the promotion spots as they aim to bounce back to Division 1B after coming down to 2A at the end of last season. Kick-off is at 2.30pm in Balreask Old, Navan. All travelling support would be much appreciated.
The Senior Seconds also opened their account for 2023 on Sunday as they build towards the upcoming Munster Junior Cup competition at the end of the month. They travelled to Coonagh to face Shannon RFC and while they lost out on a 43- 19 scoreline it was a good competitive match with plenty of encouraging performances in the Nenagh side. This team have competed well in all of their games this year and will be confident of having a good outing in the Junior Cup competition with the addition of some senior players who remain eligible.
