Nenagh Ormond under 14’s took on Ballina/ Killaloe at home on Sunday last in Lisatunny. This was a must win game for Nenagh Ormond to stay in contention in the plate. Nenagh started the stronger by scoring a try in the first 5 minutes through Hugo Healy from the full back position. This was also converted by Hugo. Ballina/ Killaloe however counter attacked quickly, scoring a try approximately 8 minutes later, this however was not converted. Just before half time Nenagh scampered back with good covering by Rian McGrath and Liam Flynn made a brilliant try saving tackle just on the Nenagh line. Good tackling was also displayed by Lorcan Fogarty and Jack Tierney to mention a few. Nenagh went in 7-5 ahead at half time.
The game really got going in the second half with Hugo Healy quickly out of the traps with a second try in the corner. This was not converted however . There were great carries by Oisin Gleeson and Ronan Devlin. There was great defence from our forwards in the second half but Ballina/ Killaloe scored a break away try which was again not converted. Nenagh now had their nose barely in front at 12-10.
Hugo Healy gathered the ball at mid field and ran a great line to score another great try with brilliant passes from Eanna Tucker, Darragh Corish, Danny Powell, Charlie Talbot, Daragh Meehan to set him up. The try was converted once more through the boot of Hugo Healy.
Ballina/ Killaloe were not dead and buried though. A late kick from their half into the Nenagh 22 resulted in scampering defence and yielded a late converted try. Nenagh ground out a win 19-17. Well done to the lads.
We now play Old Crescent for a challenge game on Sunday next and then we are away to Bruff the following Sunday for the last league game.
