Much has been written at this stage about the events in Thomond Park last Thursday night (March 16th) in the Munster Senior Cup Final. As a club we just want to say how proud we are firstly of our players and the amazing performance which they put in on the night. Every single player can be proud of the account they gave of themselves and unfortunately as we all know sport doesn’t always end in victory. To bring a team two divisions above them to the final kick, in the 86th minute of play, before ultimately losing out says everything about the resilience and commitment of this side. Credit to Young Munster for battling back from what seemed like certain defeat with less than 15 minutes left. In completing the three in a row with this victory they too demonstrated their mettle.
Off the field we are so proud of our supporters too and the electric atmosphere which they created on the night. Those of us lucky to have been in Thomond back in 2000 for the Junior Cup win over Kilfeacle will have thought that was the pinnacle in terms of the travelling support and atmosphere witnessed. Few can argue that Thursday night didn't top that as an occasion. Unfortunately all that was missing was the result.
The important thing after all is said though is that the team have much more to play for this season. That journey starts on Friday night in Spafield as Nenagh look to finally break their winless run away from home in AIL rugby vs Cashel RFC. Nenagh will look to cement their place in the promotion playoff places while Cashel need a win too to remain in the chase for promotion this season. We call on as many supporters as possible to make the trek to Cashel on Friday night to spur on the team and hopefully take another step to finishing the year on a high. Kickoff is at 8pm on Friday night in Cashel RFC.
