Nenagh Ormond under 14’s played Newcastle West in Lisatunny in the semi final of the plate on Sunday last. Conditions turned quite wet on Sunday morning. Newcastle West started the stronger with a try after approximately 4 minutes. This was converted and Newcastle West went 7-0 up. Nenagh responded quickly with a very good try from Liam Flynn on the left wing. This was not converted. Nenagh later gathered a ball from the 10 metre line with Hugo Healy executing an excellent chip and chase to score a brilliant try. This was not converted. Nenagh, from a penalty in the Newcastle West 22, worked the ball through the hands and an excellent try was scored by Darragh Boland. Nenagh went in 15-7 in front at half time.
After half time, Newcastle West capitalised on the wind and in the second half they scored two very good tries, close to the posts in both cases, and both were converted.
Nenagh did not give up however and from a penalty Hugo Healy got in again with a very good try. At full time Nenagh went in 20-21 down. Newcastle West now progress to the final of the Plate and Nenagh will focus on playing in the cup in 2 weeks time.
