The Under 12s made the trip Saturday to the famous rugby nursery of Willow Park in Dublin to play in the renowned annual Rugby festival featuring most of the best under 12 teams and players in the 32 counties. Nenagh Ormond were entered into the top A section amongst luminaries such as Willow park, St Michaels, St Marys and Blackrock College amongst others. We were also the only team apart from Willow Park themselves who had 2 teams entered into the A section.
Nenagh’s Under 12 management made the unique decision of being the only teams in Section A not to stream their teams. After a great morning's rugby defeating Blackrock college and St Michaels amongst others, a couple of draws and losses we broke for lunch.
Re-seeding takes place at lunch and many teams get moved around in grades but due to our results and score lines we were pitched back into the lion's den of the A section. Results didn’t go our way in the afternoon with a win and a draw thrown in but neither team was ever beaten by more than 2 scores even with walking wounded. Having played 6 matches some players were out on their feet but never once looked to throw in the towel. In fact one of the most noticeable things was that in almost every game we finished the stronger with the opposition often hanging on for dear life
We are extremely proud of the boys and delighted that we were exposed to such a high standard without ever once taking a backward step. The lads were a credit to the jersey and died with their boots on. They behaved impeccably on the day and on our travels and carried themselves with great dignity and courage.
We are entering the final stages of our season with another tournament away to Kilfeacle next Sunday the 2nd of April and one more in Shannon RFC on Good Friday.
