The mighty under 12’s travelled to the Shannon RFC Annual Under 12 tournament with 2 teams entered. It is the end of a long, successful season but the mileage finally caught up with lads. Team white played out of their skins while not at 100% and were very unlucky in losing out to strong Naas and Shannon sides and earning a draw with Ennis even though we scored a try on the hooter. Team red fared a little better winning their first three games and meeting Blackrock in a battle royale to see who would top the group. Blackrock with a very large and vociferous travelling contingent only entered one team so the boys were up against it from the start. It was 3 tries a piece going into the final minutes but Blackrock managed to get the upper hand on some tired Nenagh bodies and win out 5-3 and progress to the final which they subsequently lost to Naas. Our lads played Naas Green in what was effectively a 3rd/4th place final and were unlucky to lose 4-3 in a highly entertaining game played in great spirit with the Naas lads. Team white lost out in their final match to Tralee but to be honest the tank was empty at that stage and minds were wandering elsewhere but it was a noble effort nonetheless. We have finished the season now but the lads have really come on this year and play an exciting brand of entertaining, free flowing rugby. We took the decision early in the year, which is unusual in North Munster to always enter 2 even teams into all blitzes and tournaments and this will reap its dividend next year at under 13’s and the move to 15 aside and one team, as all the lads will have got a fair amount of game time. We wish all the lads the very best as they return to their GAA clubs for action and we will have some craic when we face each other across the divide during the summer. See you all in September and enjoy the break.
