Nenagh V Charleville
North Munster U16 League
Nenagh turned around a slow first half to comfortably beat Charleville in the North Munster U16 league.
Nenagh started at a pace and they were in front after just three minutes when Jack Tierney rounded off some fine work from the forwards. Nenagh continued to dominate territory and possession and within 5 minutes they went further ahead, great hands by the backs created space out wide for Dara Gaynor to score Nenagh’s second try. While Nenagh dominated possession and territory for the remainder of the first half, handling errors and ill-discipline at the breakdown meant they couldn’t maintain the pressure on Charleville and add to the scoreboard. From a scrum in their own half the Charleville no. 8 made a fine break and looked like going all the way to score under the posts but Oscar Griffin showed his pace and determination to get back and make a try saving tackle. The half time score was 14-0. Nenagh. The second half belonged to Nenagh, who showed far more composure and teamwork. From a scrum on the halfway line, Nenagh went down the blindside but were held up just short of the tryline, the ball was recycled and moved wide to Oscar Griffin who brushed off several tackles to score Nenagh’s third try. From the kickoff, Dara Corish carried into Charleville’s half, the ball was recycled from side to side and Daragh Meehan stepped inside the defense to score under the posts. Now playing with confidence Nenagh added three more tries through Dara Gaynor, Danny Powell and Jack Tierney. Charlie Talbot who had a fine game throughout converted 5 tries. Despite the scoreline Nenagh refused to concede and led by Aron Walsh and Dara Boland they showed great resilience to keep making the tackles and repeatedly turn the ball over and clear their lines.
